How does the Bootcamp compared to the IA Firm’s flood class.

The founder has attended many of the IA Firm classes (RJMW, Colonial, Pilot-PFM and Allstate, Jackson, All-Season Adjusting, Worley) and there was no practical in-field training. Most of those classes are attended by large numbers of adjusters. This BootCamp is limited to no more than twenty adjusters where personal attention is provided and the instructor is committed to assisting the adjuster with understanding what is required for a Complete Claims Package for as long as the adjuster is committed to attending a scheduled Bootcamp.

How much money can an adjuster make?

That depends upon several things:

    1) Knowledge

    2) Time of Deployment

    3) Attitude.

Knowledge is the adjuster’s most powerful tool. Attending the Boot Camp equips you to take on losses you are certified to handle.

There are many adjusters who think they are flood adjusters that have left the deployment after a few days or weeks because of all the demands and lack of knowledge. (That is why this is called a Boot Camp!)

The demands of working flood losses require staying until the work is completed, therefore you must commit the time needed. When the days become long, your team lead is demanding and the insured is calling, your attitude can become your asset or liability forcing you to realize that “if it is going to be, it is up to me!” As for the specific question, “How much money can an adjuster make?” Hurricane Harvey adjusters have made $20K to $500K. Those adjusters who made the BIG BUCKS were knowledgeable, stayed at least two months and had a very positive ATTITUDE.

Who sets the fee schedule for pay?

Fee schedules are client specific and  based upon claim type.

P & C fee schedule are different than NFIP flood fee schedule.

While P & C fee schedule are generally based upon two methods: full assignments and task assignments.  As an adjuster you should receive an agreement from the adjusting firm that would include the fee schedule, fix or percentage of fee schedule you will receive and the pay period schedule based upon CLOSED CLAIMS.

NFIP Flood Fee Schedule.

The fee schedule is set by Congress since NFIP Flood Insurance is a law.  It requires the Act of Congress to change the fee schedule.  There are times when the schedule will be change based upon the events taking place.  Payment is not made until the adjuster has submitted all paperwork including the SIGNED PROOF OF LOSS.

Key factors that affect adjusters pay:

Knowledge

Years of Experience; Adjuster, General Adjuster, Executive General Adjuster

Type of claims processed

adjuster Attitude

and if you provide your own E & O insurance.

Does the flood adjuster get paid as a 1099 or W-2 employee?

This is a complexed decision you must make as an individual rather you will work as a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor.

As a W-2 employee the deductions for an adjuster are restricted by the rules outline by the IRS.  Consult your tax advisor to know how to handle your tax issues and concerns.

As a 1099 there are multiple options that you have; sole-proprietor, LLC , LLP or INC.  The choice you make is based upon the risk you chose to take.  As a sole-proprietor you as an individual are assuming all risk if something were to go wrong.  With an LLC, LLP or INC the risk is taken on by the business and creates a vail as long as you follow the rules of the entity.  Along this these options, there are greater tax advantages that can/could flow over to you as an individual.  Consult your tax advisor to know how to handle your tax issues and concerns.
