The Difference between Authorization vs Certification in the Flood Adjuster World

The Difference between Authorization vs Certification in the Flood Adjuster World

Are you Authorized or Certified to operate as a flood adjuster?

Knowing the difference between Authorized or Certified in the adjuster world can make a difference in how you can operate & the things you can or cannot do. Many misunderstand how the flood adjuster classifications work & it's our goal to make that clear for you here in this article.

One of the most important things in the Flood Adjuster world is your Flood Control Number, commonly known as the FCN Card. The NFIP assigns a unique identifier to each adjusting firm and to all adjuster trainees which is the FCN. Adjusters will receive their own FCN number on their FCN card. But Remember In the Flood Adjusting world, FEMA has their NFIP program to authorize you & give you the permission to be a flood adjuster.

However, in the NFIP program, they don't train you on how to work a flood claim. That's where Top End Adjuster Training

comes in and we can put any adjuster through our NFIP Flood Bootcamp which teaches you how to be a world-class adjuster. From training to Certification it all starts with Top End Adjuster Training. We walk through & teach new adjusters how to operate in the current flood adjusting world.

Become a Certified Flood Adjuster

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE NFIP?

The National Flood Insurance Program, or NFIP, is the insurance arm of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The NIFP was created in conjunction with the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 following the devastation of Hurricane Betsy. Flood losses tend to be the most costly and widespread flood damage was crippling the era’s private insurance companies. Because insurers weren’t able to offer cost-effective flood coverage, the NFIP was created to maintain a large enough pool of funds to pay for such events. Even today, most standard homeowners policies do not offer flood insurance because it is simply too big a risk for insurance carriers.

WHY SHOULD INDEPENDENT ADJUSTERS GET CERTIFIED THROUGH TOP END ADJUSTER TRAINING

While most claims throughout a normal year are not flood-related, those that are usually causing considerable damage. Out of over 650,000+ claims caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, roughly 91,000 were NFIP flood claims, totaling over $8.5 billion in payouts. Those claims could only be handled by NFIP-certified adjusters. During the 2017 peak of hurricane season, the demand for flood-certified claims adjusters skyrocketed, but the supply of available and certified adjusters was incredibly low.

Because the NFIP works differently than most other types of insurance, they have different requirements for those who work with and handle claims, including adjusters. The NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent keep a database of all NFIP certified independent adjusters and their authorization numbers, and these folks are the only adjusters qualified to handle these claims.

One question that is asked often is “How do I get my flood adjuster certification?” Most would believe that FEMA/NFIP certifies the flood adjuster through their program but this is false. FEMA & the NFIP Program offer DOES NOT CERTIFIED adjusters. That is where Top End Adjuster Training comes in. We give adjusters the proper education, training & resources required to become true certified Flood adjusters. GET CERTIFIED
